Understanding the Land cruiser Steering Wheel Clock Spring and Harness
100 / 105 Series LandCruiser Steering Wheel Harness & Clock Spring Kit
If you’ve fitted an aftermarket steering wheel to your 100 or 105 Series LandCruiser and the buttons or airbag don’t work — you’re not alone. Most of the cheap sellers out there have no idea what these Cruisers actually need.
At TUCKS Performance, we’ve done the homework. This kit includes the correct clock spring and harness setup to make your new steering wheel plug-and-play with your LandCruiser — no guesswork, no cutting wires.
Here’s what’s going on
Both the early (’97–’02) and late (’02–’08) 100/105 Series use a unique 12-pin combined plug. Toyota ran all the wiring — airbag, audio and cruise control — through a single plug on these models, so the usual 10-pin Toyota harnesses don’t fit. That’s where this kit comes in.
Early 100 Series (’97–’02)
- Factory clock spring uses a 4-pin plug and won’t work with most aftermarket wheels (12-pin).
- You’ll need our replacement clock spring and correct harness to bridge it all properly.
- Some early models have a larger airbag detonator module in the horn pad — a quick fix is to source one from a 70 Series LandCruiser, 80 Series, or Hilux for plug-and-play fitment.
Late 100 / 105 Series (’02–’08)
- Also runs the same 12-pin combined plug, but pin layout and resistance values differ from most Toyotas.
- Our specific harness for this model ensures everything — including audio and cruise — functions as intended.
Stereo Compatibility
You’ll need an aftermarket stereo capable of reading steering-wheel-button inputs for audio and phone controls to work.
We stock all the correct harnesses, clock springs, and wiring kits right here in Australia — ready to post.

What is a Steering Wheel Clock Spring?
A Landcruiser steering wheel clock spring is a crucial component that connects the steering wheel to the vehicle's electrical system. It allows the electrical signals to pass through the steering wheel while providing the flexibility needed for the wheel's rotation. This means that you can use features like airbag deployment, horn functionality, and audio controls without any interruption. If the clock spring is damaged, these essential features may fail, leading to safety issues. Understanding its role is vital for maintaining your Landcruiser's safety and functionality.
Signs of a Faulty Clock Spring
There are several indicators that your Landcruiser steering wheel clock spring might be failing. You may notice warning lights on your dashboard, especially if the airbag light is illuminated. Additionally, if the horn or radio controls stop working suddenly, it could signify a defective clock spring. Ignoring these signs could lead to more extensive damage or safety risks. Therefore, if you suspect an issue, it's essential to have the clock spring inspected and replaced promptly.
The Importance of Professional Installation
When it comes to replacing the Landcruiser steering wheel clock spring, professional installation is highly recommended. This is because improper installation can lead to further issues, such as wiring errors or an ineffective airbag system. Skilled technicians have the expertise to ensure that the replacement is done correctly. Although DIY repairs may seem tempting, investing in professional help can save you from future headaches and guarantee safety for you and your passengers.
