Frequently asked questions
Do you need special fuel lines for E85?
Yes. Ethanol attacks many rubber hoses and seals over time. PTFE-lined hose with PTFE hose ends is the safe choice for E85.
Is PTFE hose good for E85?
Yes. PTFE is the go-to for E85 and methanol because the fuel cannot attack the liner or seep through it. Standard rubber-lined hose can break down and smell over time with ethanol fuels.
What size fuel line do I need for my horsepower?
As a rough guide on petrol EFI: AN6 is good to around 500 hp, AN8 to around 800 hp, AN10 beyond that. E85 needs about 30 percent more fuel, so go up a size if you are running it.
Can you use hose clamps on braided fuel line?
Not on the stainless braid. Braided hose needs proper AN hose ends to seal and hold pressure. Clamps are for push-lock or plain rubber hose.
What size is an AN6 fitting? Is 6AN the same as 3/8?
Yes. AN6 (also written -6 or 6AN) suits 3/8" (9.5 mm) hose or tube and uses a 9/16"-18 thread. The dash number is the size in sixteenths of an inch, so AN6 = 6/16 = 3/8".
