Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between male and female AN?
Male AN has the flare cone and thread on the outside. Female AN is the swivel nut that screws onto it. This adapter has a female AN swivel, so it screws straight onto a male AN fitting or bulkhead.

Are AN and NPT the same?
No. AN is a straight thread that seals on a 37 degree flare. NPT is a tapered pipe thread that seals on the thread itself with sealant. You need an adapter to go from one to the other.

Do AN fittings need thread tape or sealant?
No. The seal is made on the 37 degree flare, not the thread, so keep tape and sealant off the AN side. Only the NPT (tapered pipe) end of an adapter needs sealant.

Does Australia use BSP or NPT?
Both turn up. Most American engine parts, gauges, pumps and senders are NPT, while some local and Euro gear is BSP. Check your port before you order, they do not interchange.
