Why use an aluminium spanner on AN fittings?
Steel spanners chew up the soft anodised hex. Aluminium spanners grip on the flats without marking.

Wrap the spanner jaws in electrical tape for extra protection on show fittings.

How tight should AN fittings be?
Snug, then about a quarter turn more. The 37 degree flare does the sealing, so overtightening only damages it.
