How do I join two different size AN hoses?
Fit a hose end on each hose and screw both onto a male to male reducer union like this one.

Will stepping down a line restrict flow?
The smallest size in the line sets the flow, so only step down where the smaller size is enough for the job.

Do I need thread tape?
No. AN fittings seal on the 37 degree flare. Only the NPT thread on the elbow needs sealant.
