Frequently asked questions
Why use aluminium AN spanners?
AN fittings are soft anodised aluminium. Steel spanners mark and round them off. Aluminium spanners grip the flats without scratching.
How tight should AN fittings be?
Snug them up by hand, then about a quarter turn with a proper AN spanner. Aluminium fittings do not need much. Over-tightening can crack the flare.
How do you install AN fittings on braided hose?
Wrap the hose with tape and cut it with a fine blade or cut-off wheel, push the hose into the socket, then screw the nipple in until it bottoms out against the socket. Oil the threads first and use soft jaws or AN spanners so you do not mark the anodising.
