Frequently asked questions

How do I tell a metric thread from an imperial one?
Measure the outside of the thread and the pitch. Metric is listed as diameter x pitch in mm, like M14 x 1.5. A thread pitch gauge sorts it in seconds. If in doubt, send us a photo with a ruler.

What thread is an AN fitting?
AN fittings use American UNF/UNJF threads, for example AN6 is 9/16"-18 and AN8 is 3/4"-16. That is why you need an adapter to go from AN to a metric port.

Do AN fittings need thread tape or sealant?
No. The seal is made on the 37 degree flare, not the thread, so keep tape and sealant off the AN side. Only the NPT (tapered pipe) end of an adapter needs sealant.

What does ORB mean, and how is it different to AN?
ORB is O-Ring Boss: a straight thread port that seals with an O-ring, common on fuel pumps, regulators and filters. AN seals on a flare instead. An ORB to AN adapter lets you run AN hose to an ORB port.
