Get your steering wheel buttons working on an aftermarket stereo. This kit is the clock spring and the plug-in harness in one box, made to suit the Toyota Hilux N70 (2004 to 2015) and the LandCruiser 70 Series 76, 78 and 79 (2009 to 2023). It's one of our biggest sellers, and for good reason. Swap the clock spring, plug the harness in, run it to the stereo, connect one wire for the button lights. Done.

Who this kit is for
- 70 Series owners who bought a wheel with buttons (from us or anywhere else). The 70 Series never had buttons from the factory, so the factory clock spring can't carry the button signals. This kit fixes that.
- N70 Hilux owners with no steering wheel buttons (Workmate, SR and most fleet utes). Fit a wheel with buttons, fit this kit, and the buttons talk to your stereo.
- Anyone who bought a cheap wheel on eBay, Facebook or Alibaba and found it turned up without the wiring. Half the kits we sell go to exactly these blokes.

Will the buttons work with my stereo?

Buttons handle volume, track, source, mute and phone answer/hang-up. On vehicles with cruise on the stalk, cruise moves onto the wheel buttons.
Running a Pioneer, Kenwood, Sony, JVC or Alpine?
These stereos use a different steering wheel plug to Android units, so the harness won't plug straight in. It's a five-minute job behind the stereo:
- Choose the "Yes, Add 3.5 mm Patch Lead" option when you order. The lead comes in the box.
- Cut the steering wheel plug off the end of our harness and the plug off the patch lead.
- Join black to black. That's the earth.
- Join the remaining two wires together. It doesn't matter if the colours don't match.
- Plug the 3.5 mm end into the steering wheel input on the back of the stereo, then set up the buttons in the stereo's menu.

How it goes in
- Disconnect the battery and wait a few minutes before you touch the airbag.
- Remove the airbag and steering wheel, then unplug and remove the factory clock spring.
- Fit the new clock spring, centred, with the wheels pointing straight ahead.
- Plug the harness in underneath the clock spring and run it down to the back of the stereo.
- Connect the illumination wire to your stereo's illumination or park light feed so the buttons light up with the headlights.
- Refit the wheel and airbag, reconnect the battery, and set up the buttons in your stereo.
About an hour for a mechanically minded owner. No cutting into the factory wiring. Any auto electrician can do it start to finish.

Frequently asked questions
I bought a steering wheel somewhere else. Will this get my buttons working?
Yes. That's exactly what it's for. As long as the wheel has buttons and your stereo has a steering wheel input, this kit connects the two.
Do I need the clock spring, or just the harness?
On a 70 Series (2009 to 2023) or a Hilux N70 that never had buttons, you need both. The factory clock spring doesn't carry the button wiring. That's why they come together in this kit.
Is it a direct replacement for the factory 79 Series clock spring?
Yes. Same mounting, plugs straight in. No cutting or modification.
Does the harness give me all the buttons?
Yes, with a stereo that has a steering wheel control input. Volume, track, source, mute and phone.
Will cruise control work?
If your vehicle has cruise on the stalk, it moves to the wheel buttons. It won't add cruise to a vehicle that never had it.
What's the illumination wire for?
It lights up the buttons at night. Connect it to the stereo's illumination wire or a park light feed, so they come on with your headlights.
Will it work with my Pioneer / Kenwood / Sony?
Yes. Choose the "Pioneer, Kenwood, Sony, JVC, Alpine" option when you order and we'll include the 3.5 mm patch lead. Android stereos don't need it.
Will it work with the factory Toyota stereo?
No. The factory radio in these models has no steering wheel input. You need an aftermarket stereo.
Does it fit the 2023+ 70 Series?
No. The 2023 facelift uses a different clock spring. Use our 2023+ GX & Workmate kit.
What's the most common mistake when fitting it?
Not centring the clock spring. Fit it with the wheels dead straight and the clock spring in its centre position, or it can wind up tight and break the first time you go lock to lock.
I bought one of your wheels. Do I need this too?
Not if you picked the "without steering wheel buttons" option. The clock spring and harness are already included.
